Jackie Estacado (The Darkness)

Jackie is the son of a mafia leader, and has inherited the empire left by his father. He is also the next person in line to be the host for The Darkness. Some might say he is gifted, while others would probably say he is cursed. Jackie has always been a bit different. As a child he was haunted by nightmares and visions, and feared the dark. It led to a rough childhood. His girlfriend Jenny is perhaps the only shining light in his life.

The Darkness grants very powerful but rather dark abilities to the user. It thrives off of chaos, destruction, and death. As the Darkness feeds on the death and chaos it becomes more powerful and grants the host access to more abilities and powers. It seems to want to get free somehow.

Jackie was overwhelmed by the darkness when he was first exposed to it, but he has somewhat learned to keep a lid on it. Things can get out of hand when he is in extreme danger and the Darkness sometimes causes him to blackout and go on a rampage in order to save itself. The Darkness can also revive the host even from the brink of death itself although the regeneration process can take a considerable amount of time depending on the severity of the damage that the host has taken.

Supposedly the Darkness has been using the Estacado family as hosts going back a few generations…back to Jackie’s grandfather who discovered it during WWI. Based on the relics scattered around the world history seems to suggest that the Darkness has been around for almost as long as the world itself has. Relics dating from the Old Testament tell tales of a dark user with a penchant for destruction who God has tried to kill on multiple occasions (even killing everyone on earth to do so) but The Darkness has somehow persevered. The Angelus also hunts the Darkness, but she has not yet managed to eradicate it either.

For the time being Jackie fights to keep the Darkness from taking over completely, and uses the powers it gives him to take revenge on those who have wronged him.
